SMS Awarded Army Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery

McLean, VA | January 10, 2008 -- SMS Data Products Group, Inc., an industry leader in enterprise network services, recently announced that it has successfully completed a contract from the US Army to implement an automated server and storage system as part of an overall Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery Plan. The Department of the Army awarded SMS this task in 2006 as part of an ongoing effort to enable business continuity and disaster recovery in support of warfighter refit and reset evolutions.

The SMS team initially assessed the infrastructure and upgraded critical systems through advanced survivability methods to enable near real-time BC/DR across geographically dispersed areas. SMS was selected for this award based in part on the company’s previous experience under the Secretary of Defense’s Command Communications Survivability Program that provided the underlying infrastructure for a National Capitol Region Continuity of Operations system.

The delivered system offers increased capability for Server/Hardware Redundancy, Disk Transport Redundancy, Server Disk Optimization, Application Redundancy, and a 40% throughput increase of bandwidth performance. Also included are local and remote automatic application failover, rolling system upgrades without outages and data corruption prevention technology.

In addition to these achievements, SMS’s solution enables critical replicated data to be physically separated from the primary site.

The SMS team implemented this solution as part of an umbrella contract to deliver new technologies and approaches rapidly to the Army in support of mission critical applications and changing operational requirements.
