SMS Continues to provide Naval Medical Information Management Center (NMIMC) with Information Assurance services

McLean, VA | October 1, 2002 -- SMS Data Products Group, Inc., a leading enterprise network services firm, announced today that the Naval Medical Information Management Center (NMIMC) has awarded a GSA Schedule Task Order for Information Assurance services to SMS. Under this Task Order SMS will provide architectural consultation, security engineering and management services for firewalls, intrusion detection systems, managed Virtual Private Networks, and other security applications in support of NMIMC's IT security initiatives.

NMIMC is responsible for administering an IT security program that services NMIMC, the Navy's Bureau of Medicine (BUMED), and Claimancy 18 field activities. This program provides Certification and Accreditation (C&A) for the NMIMC and BUMED local area networks, C&A consulting services for Claimancy 18 networks, security training for NMIMC and BUMED personnel, as well as security policies and procedures documentation for Claimancy 18. SMS will provide the security engineering and management support services required to assist NMIMC in the administration and maintenance of the IT security infrastructure on the NMIMC/BUMED local area network.

SMS will provide onsite technical support under this order, providing services which will include gathering data, performing intrusion analyses, preparation of statistical summaries, providing the manpower for 7x24 monitoring, troubleshooting security systems and personnel security training support. In addition to administrative and operational support, SMS will provide configuration management services to allow systems performance optimization and to provide control and management tracking for changes made to the security infrastructure.

The NMIMC task order is indicative of the increased emphasis on IT security at all Federal and Defense agencies. SMS has seen significant growth in outsourced IT security services in recent months and continues to train and educate engineers in the latest IT security systems and architectures.
