SMS Enters Enterprise Level RAID Market

Stack 'Em, Rack 'Em, Store 'Em Series Scales to Multiple Terabyte Capacities

McLean, VA -- SMS Data Products Group, Inc., enters the Enterprise Level Redundant Array of Independent Disks (RAID) storage market with the introduction of the SRS Series RAID Data Storage Subsystem. SMS, known for its patented scalable, modular, and upgradable Millenia and Value Series Data Storage Subsystems, has applied the same scalable, modular, and upgradable concept to its new enterprise RAID system.

The SRS Series is SMS' scalable Stack 'em, Rack 'em, Store 'em solution to Enterprise Level RAID storage. It is a unique, standards based, dual chassis storage platform delivered on multiple, concurrent, and redundant Ultra II SCSI (LVD) and Fibre Channel Data I/O paths.

The SRS Series is designed from the ground up to be the fastest, most scalable, and most cost effective enterprise level RAID system on the market. Delivering transfer speeds of up to 80 to 100 MB/s utilizing Ultra II SCSI (LVD) or Fibre Channel technology, the SRS is the fastest RAID system around, while providing the reliability of multiple and redundant hot swappable power supplies and cooling modules. The SRS also delivers the scalability that SMS products are known for, with a drive chassis that supports current and future drive speeds and densities. And, every component, from drive cells to cooling modules, from power supplies to RAID controllers, is hot swappable. Upgradable components are accessible from the front, so replacing and/or upgrading components takes seconds.

Beyond hot swap, the SRS Series provides automatic hot-spare failover and can be configured on the fly. It supports RAID Levels 0, 1, 0/1, 3, 4, 5, and JBOD, as well as clustering, spare pools, and online expansion capabilities. The SRS' superior physical fault tolerance includes a built-in SAF-TE processor chip that warns of potential failures. Plus, its scalable architecture allows for storage capacities from 54 GB up to multiple Terabytes of data.

"Like the Millenia Series, the SRS is completely scalable, modular," explains SMS' Director of Marketing, Rob Marks. "Instead of having to buy a larger system than is needed today to handle tomorrow's possible growth, our customers can configure a system that covers only their current needs, and then grow their system to meet actual future requirements. This way, there is no wasted investment."

"The SRS is an ideal product for us to enter enterprise level market," says Lance Adams, SMS' Director of Sales. "Its' Ultra II SCSI and Fibre Channel interfaces and multiple redundant systems and components make it the fastest, most reliable RAID around. And, because it's server independent, end users are no longer locked into buying their RAID from their server manufacturer. The SRS provides them with a cost effective option that is as reliable, and more scalable, than they can get from server manufacturers."

"This system has been designed from the ground up. It's unique," says Mike Rowland, SMS' Director of Technical Operations. "Its multiple redundancies make it incredibly reliable, and each hot swap component can be reached and removed from the front, so maintenance and upgrades are a snap."
